MoSPI Moves to Give India’s Official Statistics an AI Upgrade

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is building a Common Data Platform (CDP) to consolidate roughly 300 scattered data sources currently used in GDP compilation into a single, modern data-lakehouse architecture. The eventual goal is a dedicated large language model that lets policymakers, researchers and businesses query official economic data using natural-language prompts. Chennai-based Bahwan CyberTek has been awarded the 18-month build for MoSPI’s National Accounts Division. This is one of the most concrete signs yet of the Indian government embracing AI-native analytics infrastructure rather than just dashboards.
