Microsoft AI announced a suite of seven in-house “MAI” models, headlined by MAI-Thinking-1, a reasoning model built to match premium-tier logical performance at a significantly lower token cost. The launch is widely read as Microsoft reducing its dependence on third-party foundation models for its own Copilot and analytics products — relevant context for any organisation building AI-powered reporting on top of the Microsoft stack.

What this means for our clients: Keeping pace with which foundation model powers which enterprise tool is now part of the job for any analytics professional — one reason we keep our training curriculum updated every quarter, not every year.
